Donuts, Rusty Cars, and Triple Extortion

Well, we just had the first sign of spring in Cleveland, when we went from snow to 88 degrees in the matter of a few days (the second sign is my first case of poison ivy- on my face!).  I think it was a little confusing for the newest member of the Abbott family, Sherman (as in the tank).  He’ll be 10 weeks old tomorrow, and it’s just like having a baby in the house again; whose turn is it to get up in the middle of the night (this morning it was mine- at 4:30AM)?

Tim Hortons

The Canadian donut chain with the NHL player’s name continues to expand in the U.S.  Earlier this week, they celebrated their 57th anniversary, and these 11 Very Canadian Facts About Tims made it to my inbox. I found numbers four and five to quite interesting.  And while the ‘double-double’ is the standard coffee order (two creams, two sugars), there’s also a ‘Gretzky’.  Any hockey fans out there who can figure out what the means?

 

 

External Sender Emails

Are your emails set up to notify you when you’re receiving something from an external (outside of your company) sender?  A security researcher has found a way to delete that notification, thereby making it seem that the email you might be about to click isn’t really from within your network.

 

 

Collectibles

I got an article about a new app that allows investors to buy and sell shares in collectible assets, including items like a pair of Kobe Bryant’s shoes and a copy of the Declaration of Independence.  And that article linked to one about missing sports memorabilia that was even more interesting.

For those of you who buy your jeans pre-ripped, now you can buy your cars already worn in..  It seems that the 2021 Land Rover Defender is now available with pre-rusted features

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve had any real estate in my inbox, so I’m glad that my friends at Christie’s NYC decided to hit me up again this week.  If you’re looking for an NYC getaway (for at least 30 days) The Fasano Fifth Avenue is available for $100K/month.  To start.

 

Triple Extortion 

Ransomware gangs used to make their money by encrypting data and requesting ransom payments in exchange for decryption keys.  As many realized that a good backup solution meant not having to pay the ransom, the hackers started threatening to release stolen data, on top of charging ransoms.  Now, they’re taking it to a new level by threatening not only the business that has been ransomed, but that business’s customers!  Any bets on what the next threat will be?

Bicycles

The bicycle made its first appearance in America 202 years ago, today, in NYC. According to this article, they were banned in the city soon thereafter… sounds like the electric scooter issues we’re having in downtown CLE.

 

The Indians are back in town for a big series against the Twins this weekend, and it’s only 10 days until Progressive Field will be back to full capacity. Can’t wait to get to a game! Looks like it should be another nice weekend… I hope you find something fun to do outside.
