I heard from one of my regular readers this morning that he hadn’t seen my publication in quite some time. I pulled him up in our CRM and took a screenshot of the page that shows him having opened and clicked on numerous different pieces from various editions over the past couple of months… Thinking that the spam filters are stopping me again. Love to hear from you if you get this. And if you’re not, let me know and I’ll explain how you can add me to a white list to ensure that you get this every Friday afternoon. So, thanks to Kurt for the reminder that spam filters are not my friend. And also for sending me a couple of items for this week’s edition.
Scroll on down for Buffalo wings, spiders, heavy phones, and more. Enjoy!
Something about ...
ChatGPT Security
Researchers have found numerous bugs and vulnerabilities in ChatGPT that would allow hackers to access personal information of users. Another good reminder that if your company or users are using large language models for business purposes, you should have a proper acceptable AI usage policy in place. Otherwise, you’re leaving yourself open to both security concerns and people sharing valuable corporate data with the rest of the world.
Heavy Phones
Have you ever wanted an excuse to not use your mobile device as often as you do? Well here it is. It’s a six pound stainless steel case that, in theory, will make it so miserable to hold your device that you’ll put it down, instead.
Freight Theft
I’ve always said that it’s too bad that hackers would rather cause problems than cure cancer. Based on this article and how they’re stealing physical cargo from shipping companies, they’re clearly smart enough to put their efforts to better use. In this case, they’re using the same remote monitoring tools that we use for our clients
Password Security
Last week, I had a piece about the brilliant ad campaign that came out of the recent Louvre break-in. Since that event, there’ve been plenty of questions as to the strength of the museum’s physical security. Thieves cut through steel bars, enter a loosely guarded room, and steel millions in jewels… and now we find out that the password for the museum’s security camera system was “Louvre”. Not “Louvre75001$$” or “MonaLisa1503!?”. Just “Louvre”. Makes you wonder in what other ways the museum could be compromised.
Dumb Homes
Saw something on the Today Show earlier this week about the trend that is “dumb homes”. More and more people are getting rid of or reducing the amount of connected technology in their homes because it doesn’t add resale value and it makes people too connected. Wow. Genius. I was going to share the Today Show video, but when I searched for it, I realized that they were just regurgitating something they’d seen elsewhere (thus the Techspot article). I should’ve realize that from the start… that’s all that show ever does. Anyway, I think we have two smart lightbulbs in the house. And a tv. And I’ve never missed having a fridge that makes grocery lists or a dishwasher I can program from a fishing boat or ski lift.
Food
Not sure why this video about ghost pepper buffalo wings ended up in my inbox (it wasn’t from somebody who knows I love really hot food), but I’m suddenly craving wings. At the moment, all of my ghost peppers have been dried and crushed to sprinkle on things like pasta, rice, and eggs, but after seeing this, I need to go get some fresh ones and a pound or two of wings!
If ghost peppers are too much for you, how ’bout a little dinosaur meat? Some guy took the time to chase down a paleontologist to ask what dino meat might taste like, and which species would be most edible. Guess he needs to find some other things to keep him occupied. Anyway, an interesting theory, and if you click through and read the article, there’s also a link to the folks that ate stew made from 50,000 year old bison meat!
Nancy's Nuggets
Anybody out there afraid of spiders? How ’bout a web with over 100,000 of the little creatures? I’m out!
That’s all for this week. I’ll leave you with a great way to keep the Browns downtown and playing football outdoors, as it should be. This is from the new stadium in Berlin, Germany, where the NFL will play a game this weekend. Gotta think it’s a lot less expensive to run the cables and add the parachute on top, than it is to build a new building and the infrastructure to support it (since there’s zero of that in Brookpark).
And speaking of the Browns, my former season ticket rep texted me this morning with an offer; for only $11,000, we could get a suite for 16 at this weekend’s game. Including food, beverage, and two (!) parking spaces. Not sure where I found the restraint to pass on that offer. If you’re interested, let me know and I’ll make an intro.
Headed to the new Crowley’s at Fairmount Circle in Shaker tonight. Have heard great things about their burgers but never been to any of their locations. Hope they have wings, too…
Have a great weekend, and Go Bucks!
