Welcome to 2026! Sorry if you’ve missed me over the past couple of weeks (I’ve had at least two people mention they haven’t seen me in awhile) but the holidays took over and combined with our ongoing battle to get the new marketing platform up and running smoothly, I figured I’d take a few weeks off from bothering you.
Hoping everybody had a great holiday and that you got to spend plenty of time with friends and family. We did a lot of that, but also took plenty of time to relax, including a few days on the beach in Florida. And now we’re back at it! All kinds of interesting stuff today, from Tim Misny to Lindsey Vonn, pizza to Legos, and deepfakes to web medicine… enjoy!

I don’t believe half of what I see online any more, and maybe I need to be even more suspicious. According to this piece, AI and deepfakes are going to cause even more problems in 2026.

Tired of diagnosing yourself using WebMD? Now you can use ChatGPT Health to figure out why your foot is 90 degrees off from where it should be, or why you suddenly developed a third eye in the middle of your forehead. Travis sent this one over to me with the note “this is going to be big“. Ok.
D Link Routers
Take this as another reminder that if you’re using consumer grade hardware (in this case, switches or routers) for your business, or if your hardware is grossly out of date (for business or personal usage), you’re putting yourself and your business at great risk.
Ambulance Chasers
Thanks to longtime reader Kurt for sharing this one about lawyers who advertise on billboards. Along with the interesting article (one firm acknowledges spending over $1M annually on billboard advertising), he included the fact that locally famous advertiser Tim Misny has 299 billboards (as of 2.27.25) around Northeastern Ohio. That’s pretty impressive!
Kurt’s article reminded me of another ambulance chasing firm whose billboards we used to see driving I-90 through the suburbs of Buffalo, NY, into downtown, and to the Canadian border; Cellino and Barnes. They became so (in)famous that they were turned into an off-Broadway musical.
Real Estate
It’s been awhile since we’ve had a good real estate listing. In this case, it’s in the city of Cleveland (Georgia) and has 40 acres, a swimming pool, gym, and six bedrooms. Oh yeah… and it’s a nudist colony.
Job Descriptions
According to this LinkedIn article, 56% of professionals expect to search for a new job in 2026. Are you one of those people? If so, you can lean on this list of the top 25 fastest growing roles, the top two of which are both in the field of AI. I had to laugh at the fact that “research assistants” are now known as “data annotators” and “real estate agents” are now known as “new home sales consultants”. Maybe whomever wrote the article should find a new job as a “resume consultant”.

Many times I’ll see an article come through my inbox and not give it much thought,. Then the same topic comes up a second or third time, and I figure that maybe I should share. That happened twice this week; first with Lego smart blocks (because everything has to be ‘connected’ and have some sort of electronic gadgetry), and then with the fact that Americans seem to be eating less pizza (focus in this article is on chains like Domino’s and Papa Johns- is it any wonder people are eating less of that???)
That’s all for this week. Big weekend of football on tap, which started last night. As someone who can’t stand the SEC or Miami, I was torn last night, hoping that whomever won (Miami, in the end) loses to whichever Big10 team wins tonight. And then we have the NFL. I won’t be as interested in those games, but since the Browns just barely missed the playoffs, I have to pick somebody to root for… Go Pats!
We had the joy of flying Frontier to/from Florida, so there were no safety videos to ignore… just flight attendants. Figured I’d pass this one along, though, as it was interesting to see the big budgets that some airlines have for their videos.
