Our friends at Pease Bell CPA recently put out a good reminder piece about social engineering, and how easy it is for hackers to collect and collate a ton of information about a person, based solely on pictures and social media posts. Remember to think before you share.
Airplane Passengers
The longest flight I’ve ever taken was maybe eight hours. Whatever it takes to get from Chicago to Stockholm. Long enough. Not horrible, but not something I’d want to do every week. I sat for most of the flight. Stood in the galley talking about American football with the Swedish SAS flight attendants for a bit. Probably used my overhead light to read. Could’ve used something humorous like this piece about a 13 hour flight.
AI Doctors
A new Harvard study finds that an old AI model did better at diagnosing ER patients than did two doctors. Cause for celebration, or cause for concern?
AI Restaurants
Which would you prefer… an AI doctor or an AI restaurant? If you’d prefer an AI restaurant, now might be your chance, as one entrepreneur has plans which will allow “anybody” to open their own. Electric kitchens claim to have a 700 ingredient recipe list, and a sauce maker is said to be able to create 80% of all sauces that appear on the internet… Perfect for influencers, right? But as you get to the end of the article, the truth comes out. Robots can’t roll sushi or toss pizza, so the focus will be on burgers, wings, and bowls.
Bigfoot
For the second time in a month comes reports of Bigfoot (Bigfeet ?) on the loose in Ohio. Hide the kids and keep the dogs on a leash… No insight from the Ashton bigfoot believers, but I’d have to think that if these sighting were real, ours guys would be all over the case.
Summer Jobs
If you’re looking for a way to make $50K this summer, while only working for seven weeks, here’s your chance. Fox Sports is hiring one person to be their “official World Cup (soccer) watcher“. The only catch is that you have to watch all 104 games of the tournament. That might be painful.
Fake Claude
Our security partners at Sophos have found a new threat disguised as AI tool Claude. The hackers use a spoofed website and a similar looking URL to fool uses into thinking their logging into the real Claude. With this one, though, malware is immediately downloaded onto the unsuspecting user’s device and it’s all downhill from there. Make sure when going to a website (especially one that you’re finding through a search engine) that you are where you really mean to be!
If you’ve made it this far, you deserve some fun. Maybe jigsaw puzzles are your thing? If so (and I think i’ve shared speed jigsaws in the past), maybe you can enter the next world’s fastest jigsaw puzzlers competition. If puzzles aren’t your thing, how ’bout sports trivia mixed with geography? This game, in which you answer sports trivia by finding the right city on a map of the world, just came out this week, and I’m already hooked. Only five questions per day, so no more than a few minutes of wasted time!
Finally this week, congrats to Gabe Taxman for closing his first deal since he joined the Ashton team just a few months ago. Tradition at Ashton is that any closed deal sounds our hockey goal horn. Volume up while Taxy does his thing.
